Society accepting donations for medical equipment!

The animal hospital project was designed to improve the quality of veterinary care for the animals at the Zoo and at the same time enhance the experience of the Zoo visitors.  These projects are essential to meeting the high standards of care for the animal collection and maintain AZA accreditation.

Other fun facts, we average around 275 animal exam/followup exams a year, run 300-400 tests a year, and currently are taking 2-3 radiographs a week!

Heim Charitable Gift

In April 2019 the NEW Zoological Society was notified by the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation that the Society is one of the nonprofit recipients of the “Ronald C. and Pauline P. Heim Charitable Fund: A fund of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation”.   The letter included that “The Heims were humble people who cared about our community.  This planned gift was established by Mrs. Heim to endow support for more than 30 nonprofit organizations in our community forever”.

The Board of Directors issued the following news release:  “Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for Ron and Pauline Heim. We are deeply indebted to these incredibly generous donors for their support of the environmental conservation of animals of the world that live within our local community. We understand that Ron and Pauline were known for their love of nature and animals and we’re beyond honored to fulfill their desire to keep that love going strong through their financial support. Their donation will benefit generations of families and children to come. Given that the N.E.W. Zoo does not receive tax payer dollars, significant contributions such as these are vital to continue providing public education, conservation and medical support to our zoo residents. It is generosity like this that benefits the Northeast Wisconsin community and our collective mutual love for animals as a whole.“

N.E.W. Zoological Society receives Green Gift from Cellcom

Suamico, WI (October 30, 2017) –  N.E.W. Zoological Society has been selected as a 2017 Cellcom Green Gift recipient. The organization received a $750 Green Gift from Cellcom to support new interactive graphics at the Giraffe Discovery Center.

“The NEW Zoo does not have any indoor play areas, so this wall of interactive graphics would be the first of its kind at the facility. The zoo frequently receives inquiries from visitors about indoor places for children to play during the winter months, so there is a clear desire from the community to have this type of space,” said Angela Kawski-Kroening of the NEW Zoo. “It is our hope that this grant will be a first step in the evolution of the building to provide an inviting, educational space that visitors can take advantage of year-round.”

The interactive graphics will allow the zoo to educate visitors and connect with them on a new level. Young children especially need to feel, touch, and play in order to learn, and that is what the new signs hope to accomplish in the Giraffe Discovery Center. With support from the Cellcom Green Gift, the NEW Zoo hopes to have the display installed by spring 2018.

N.E.W. Zoological Society was among 30 green organizations that received a share of the $40,000 in Green Gifts from Cellcom this year. The Green Gifts program launched in 2010 and uses funds generated from Cellcom’s cell phone recycling program to fund green nonprofit initiatives. Customers and community members can bring in their old or unwanted phones to be reused and recycled. Cellcom sends the phones to recyclers who in return send money to Cellcom for the materials that were saved from the phones. Cellcom’s Green Gift program completes the green cycle that starts with consumers being environmentally-conscious and donating their devices.

“Our service area is fortunate to be teeming with non-profits that are creatively using their resources to help the environment though education and activism. Donating your phone allows us to contribute to their efforts through our Green Gifts program and ultimately work toward a greener tomorrow,” said Brighid Riordan, director of public affairs and customer experience initiatives at Cellcom.  Cellcom is proud to support organizations of all sizes, whose work is impacting the community and building a greener tomorrow. The company’s recycling program has generated $306,975 for local charities over the past 13 years.

Cellcom is an innovative wireless company that provides nationwide service for its customer base throughout Wisconsin and Michigan, with more than 50 retail and agent locations. Cellcom is respected for its long-standing reputation of delivering extraordinary customer care, being a strong community partner, and for its renowned network, which is customized to its rural markets.
